Ansari's Darul Jawad residence is new 'power center' in Kashmir | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, July 8: The rebellion in Peoples Democratic Party, by its senior leader and former minister Imran Raza Ansari is drawing him more friends than before, though his act of revolt was expected to face resistance from PDP colleagues. While Ansari openly questioned the "family raaj" of PDP President Mehbooba Mufti and her close relatives including Tasaduq Mufti, instead of condemnation from the party colleagues, most of them have been making a beeline at his Darul Jawad residence at Qamarwari here. Sources said to show his "power" Ansari would call a "parallel meeting" of PDP rebels at his residence on the day when Mehbooba Mufti is scheduled to chair a meeting of party leaders at her FairView residence. "It will be Darul Jawad Vs Fairview," said a PDP leader close to Mehbooba's camp. A senior police official privy to the unusual hustle bustle at Ansari's residence said the villa has become a "hub of rebel activities." "All roads lead to Darul Jawad. This man has suddenly become a king-maker and there is no dearth of Bagla Bhagats who are there to appease him," the official said on the condition of anonymity. Sources said apart from rebels like MLA Yasir Reshi and MLA Abbas Wani and Abid Ansari, scores of senior leaders from the PDP and other parties spend their day holding meetings at his residence. Sources said some "third front leaders" have almost been camping at his residence. "What is most shocking is that the PDP leaders who claim to be close the Mehbooba camp have also been visiting the Ansari residence but largely in the evenings," the insiders said. Sources said Ansari is bracing up the rebel group to support separatist leader turned mainstream leader Sajjad Lone as the Chief Ministerial candidate for prospective alliance with the BJP. It was reliably learnt that Sajjad is largely banking on Ansari's moves. "The interesting thing is that Ansari's rebellion was like a gamble but it has worked, so everyone wants to support him," said a senior PDP leader. When contacted Ansari's private secretary acknowledged about the political activities at Darul Jawad. "Sahib has asked us to keep doors open for all visitors. So whosoever comes in is welcome," the secretary told Early Times. |
