Information Deptt turns into hub of 'corruption'?
7/8/2018 11:57:44 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 8: The state run Information department during the past three years of PDP-BJP rule turned into an alleged "hub of corruption," sources told Early Times.
They said that people heading the department used the distribution of the government advertisements as a tool to control the local media. "The innovative ideas floated by the department to streamline the distribution of the government advertisements proved nothing more than a damp squib," sources added.
They said that in order to hide their "misdeeds" officials came up with the idea of new advertisement policy. "The new policy set up high parameters for the distribution of the government advertisements but this policy has not seen the light of the day till date," they added.
Newspaper owners, who are running their publications ethically, were made to run from pillar to post to complete the formalities despite that department failed to categorize the newspapers and fix a new rate which was approved by the previous PDP-BJP regime. "The department till date has not categorized the newspapers due to many reasons," said a source.
He claimed till date many internal inquiries have been ordered in the department but these have got buried within the files. "The close proximity of the officials of the Information department with the people running the state has made them believe that no action would ever be taken against them and they can get away with anything," revealed an insider.
Early Times has been at the fore-front of exposing the "misdeeds" of the officials associated with the department due to which they have taken a "special liking" towards your newspaper. The officials of the Information department in order to establish their writ have choked Early Times from all the sides. Not giving the government advertisements to us has been their policy since past many years. They want Early Times to surrender and kneel before them. By stopping the government advertisements the officials believe that they can have their way. Politicians, who ruled the state never asked them what they are doing as most of the officials handling the Information department enjoyed the political backing.
Despite there being no political dispensation at place the officials of the Information department seem to be in no mood to mend their ways. They are still acting like "monarchs" and are carrying on with their activities without any fear. The biggest challenge for the Governor's administration is to clear the mess in the department so that its sanctity is restored.
