Jammu, July 15: Former minister and senior National Conference leader, Surjit Singh Slathia, today launched plantation drive at village Meen Sarkar (Barjani Talab). On the occasion scores of locals including elders, youth and children participated in the plantation drive, wherein, hundred saplings were planted today. The saplings were provided by the Non Government Organisation (NGO)-'Technyme for All' under mission "Clean Jammu Green Jammu". The NGO aims to plant around 1 lakh saplings within three years of span. Speaking on the occasion Slathia urged upon the people to plant more and more trees to keep the environment clean and green. He said as trees produce oxygen and inhale carbon-dioxide are known as the life line for living creatures especially humans. Deliberating upon the topic he said that plantation and preservation of trees are the only method to reduce the effects of the global warming which is increasing the temperature of the planet earth and even oceans have started melting. He hailed the local youth and the NGO for this kind initiative and appealed those present on the occasion to adopt one newly planted sapling to nurture so that they can become big trees in the days to come. Social worker Jagdish Sharma while speaking on the occasion urged the people to plant, save and adopt method to help these sapling grow as bigger trees. The plantation was carried out in the playfield of Barjani Talab and Government Middle School, Barjani Talab. The prominent present on the occasion include Balkar Singh, Bharat Bhushan, Gulab Din, Buti Ram, Fazal Din, Nazar Hussain, Bansi Lal, Purshotam Lal, Buti Ram, Subash Chander, Chaman Lal, Balram Bhagat, Raman Kumar, Jaggu, Vipan Kumar and others. |
