Early Times Report Srinagar, Oct 10 The summer capital recorded the lowest minimum temperature of the season after mercury witnessed a drop and settled at 5.7 degree Celsius, a notch below normal, resulting in morning chill and forcing people to wear woollen and clothes. The early morning walkers were seen wearing warm track suits and covering their heads with caps. A Met department spokesman said here this afternoon that there is possibility of isolated rain today in Kashmir valley and Jammu division. However, the weather will remain dry in the state, including in Ladakh during the next 24 hours, he added. Due to snowfall on the upper reaches recently, the weather turned cold in Kashmir valley, particularly in the morning and evening, when people were seen wearing warm clothes, particularly 'Pheran' in hilly areas. The Met spokesman said the minimum temperature in the summer capital was 5.7 degrees, more than a notch below normal, lowest of the season, so far. He said the minimum temperature will remain below normal, though the maximum temperature was expected to remain near normal due to clear sky during the next 24 hours. Though Sun was out today also, but the intensity of the heat was very low because of cold winds in Srinagar, where the Civil Secretariat, seat of the Government will close in Srinagar on October 27 and 29, to reopen in winter capital Jammu on November 7. However, majority of people remained indoors due to curfew restrictions in majority areas in the city today. Chill also intensified in areas, particularly near the hills. The Met spokesman said sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would remain around 33 degrees and 18 degrees in winter capital, respectively during the next 24 hours. He said in Leh, sky would also be cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would remain around 21 and 6 degrees, respectively during the next 24 hours. |
