Jammu, Oct 10: Temples today witnessed rush of devotees on the Maha Navami, celebrated here with religious fervour. Devotees from different walks of life thronged various temples, especially at Shri Raghunath Temple, to offers prayers for peace and prosperity. Maha Navami followed the eight-day-long navratras while Dussehra will be celebrated tomorrow in the winter capital. Men, women and children offered flowers, fruits to the idols of Lord Rama while 'jal' to shivlingam. People broke their fast of eight-day-long Navaratras by visiting temples, offering traditional food to 'kanjaks' and immersing 'saakh' into river Tawi. However, tight security arrangements were made in and around temples for incident free celebrations. Reports from Katra said pilgrims from across the country visited the holy town to perform pilgrimage to the cave shrine. Around 25,000 to 30,000 pilgrims during Navratras visited the Katra for yatra. Meanwhile nine days of Katra festival witnessed festivity like atmosphere with number of colourful programmes organised by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. |
