Returns salary cheque, terms it a cruel joke | Sarpanch blasts Panchayati Raj myth | | Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 25: Giving a severe blow to `Panchayati Raj', a sarpanch returned his salary to the Deputy Commissioner Jammu. The sarpanch identified as Anil Sharma of Jindra Panchayat of Dansal block of Jammu while returning the cheque for Rs 2000 said his organization, Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference (JKPC) was not fighting for salary but for empowerment of Panchayats. Sharma is the general secretary of the JKPC. Describing Rs 2000 cheque as a cruel joke of government with the sarpanches, Anil told the DC that his salary be deposited in red cross account. "I will not accept it as it is a cruel joke with the panchayat members of the state." He said. It is pertinent to mention here that government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced honorarium for panches and sarpanches of the state @ Rs 1000 for panch and Rs 2000 for sarpanch per month. Anil Sharma's step was highly appreciated by the panchayat members of block Dansal in particular and other panchayat members of the state in general. On this occasion, Anil Sharma reiterated his stand to fight for the empowerment of panchayats. |
