NC, Congress will pay a heavy price for targetting former Army chief | Playing with national security | | Rustam Jammu, Sept 25: The National Conference (NC) and the so-called Indian National Congress (INC), which have lost the people's confidence owing to their various acts of omission and commission and disregard for democratic values, have committed a grave blunder by targetting former Army chief General V K Singh. These two fake secular and anti-democratic outfits might have succeeded in pandering to their respective communal constituencies but they have offended the nation by taking on a person who is known for his integrity, impeccable record, plain-speaking, dedication and courage of conviction and whose services to the country would be remembered for years. It appears that the leadership of both these parties has lost it way. How else should one describe their unwarranted attack on the former Army chief who simply clarified the position on September 23 and informed the nation as to what was the truth following the publication of a report in a leading national daily based on a leaked report or portions of the report? It was not General V K Singh who raked up the controversy. It was someone in the Defence Ministry or the Prime Minister's Office who leaked out some contents of the controversial report and ensured the publication of a controversial news that created an impression across the world that General V K Singh had bribed one of the ministers in Jammu & Kashmir to get the Omar Abdullah-led government toppled. Those who charged the former General with giving Rs 1.19 crore to a minister in the Omar Abdullah government to get the state government toppled only made a fool of themselves. It is just unbelievable that a petty sum of Rs 1.19 crore would be required to topple any government. It was incumbent on the part of General V K Singh, who was condemned unheard by the vested interests in the establishment and a section of pliable media, to clear the air by informing the nation as to what exactly happened or as to what was done by the Army in Kashmir. He did not commit any mistake by saying that the Army took or takes the help of ministers/politicians in anti-insurgency operations as they are men on the spot or as they are fully aware of the local conditions. This is a routine practice followed across the world with India being no exception. It is universally known that the Army, paramilitary forces and other agencies charged with the responsibility of the defence of the country do take recourse to covert operations to isolate, rein in undesirable and hostile elements and defeat their sinister game plans well on time. In fact, the covert operations are an integral part of the system. There is no doubt whatever that the NC and the Congress will pay a very heavy price for targetting General V K Singh who actually deserved bouquets for his great contribution to the national cause in Jammu & Kashmir and North East. |
