General Singh's accusations has badly dented image of J&K 's mainstream politicians: Omar | Puts ball of Ghulam Hassan Mir's resignation in Congress's court | | Jehangir Rashid SRINAGAR, Sept 25: Accepting that allegations leveled by former army chief, General V K Singh has caused a dent to the image of mainstream politicians in the state, chief minister Omar Abdullah today said the resignation of agriculture minister, Ghulam Hassan Mir has already been taken up with the Congress party. Talking to media persons on the sidelines of a function here, Omar said that Congress has to take a decision on Mir's future in state cabinet since he has been nominated by them in the council of ministers. He said he or his party would accept the decision of Congress party in this regard and not influence the decision. "The allegations leveled by the former army chief have cast a negative image of the politicians in the state more so those belonging to Kashmir valley. I hope that Government of India would carry out a meaningful probe in the allegations and the true would come out. The probe is important since it would restore the credibility of the politicians of the state," chief minister said. Omar took a dig at former army chief's statement that most of the mainstream leaders in the state were on pay rolls of army. He dismissed the allegations saying that the former army chief has issued a vague statement. He said the veracity of allegations can be established only when a thorough probe is carried out by a credible organization. "As far as the allegations leveled by former army chief are concerned my government as well as my party has expressed serious concern about it. I do not call them as revelations and it would be better to call them as accusations. My belief is that these accusations cannot be dismissed at the first instance and need to be investigated further," chief minister said. Omar said the matter has been formally taken up with the Government of India for further action. He said despite good work efforts are being made to present the mainstream politicians in a bad shape so that their credibility is dented. He added that most of the mainstream politicians are not aware about the financial assistance from army. "It is highly unfortunate and unfair that mainstream leadership is being looked with suspicion. Majority of the politicians have no financial dealing with army. The accusations leveled by former army chief have created problems for the mainstream politicians and they are at loss to defend their position since very few people believe them as on date. The true picture will emerge only when a thorough probe is carried out and I hope that Government of India shall do the same," chief minister said. It would be in place to mention here that a media report last week had said that former army chief General V K Singh had paid money to topple the Omar Abdullah led coalition government in 2010. The report had also said that Rs. 1.19 crores were paid to agriculture minister Ghulam Hassan Mir to facilitate the fall of coalition government. On Tuesday General Singh created yet another controversy by saying that all the ministers in Jammu & Kashmir are on pay rolls of army. |
