Achievement claims rub salt in pestering wounds
5 Years of Coalition Govt
1/6/2014 11:29:44 PM

Jammu, Jan 6: Extravagant advertisement issued by the Coalition Government highlighting its achievements to mark completion of five years of its term has turned out to be a spoof on its own credibility and claim.
The advertisement titled "Let Facts Speak" speaks volumes of the failures and disappointments of the Coalition Government that dot its hyped list of achievements which include Awami Ikhtiyarat, Rozgar, Bijli, Pani, Sadak, Sehat and Taleem.
It is ironical that first in its list of achievements, the coalition Government has made a mention of Public rights and empowerment, while the fact is that the coalition Government would be remembered for withholding empowerment of panchayats, the grass root democratic institutions and depriving urban local bodies of their representative characters by not holding elections to Municipal bodies due to the vested interests of its MLAs.
The mega advertisement makes tall claims of offering over one lakh jobs, but the fact is that the coalition Government changed the course of lives of the talented youth of the state for ever by bringing in New Recruitment Policy. Under the discriminatory policy that is applicable only to those seeking class III and class IV jobs, the employees get less than half their salaries for first five years of their service, while those recruited through PSC are immune to these provisions. While Chief Minister Omar Abdullah claims that such a move shall inspire youth of the state to look beyond Government jobs, the move has triggered a brain drain from the state and huge talented workforce has started looking outward.
Similarly, the claims of availing basic amenities of Bijli, Pani to the people by coalition Government are also unfounded. While Power scenario has gone from bad to worse during the regime of Omar Government, water scarcity has emerged as a grave challenge. Despite strictures from the Planning commission of India, the State Government has failed to control power pilferage and T&D losses which continue to be highest in the country. Government institutions and departments continue to be biggest defaulters of their power dues and mafia within the PDD continues to raise inflated electricity bills in favour of honest consumers to meet their targets.
Similar is the fate of the other claims of the coalition Government which it has highlighted in its advertisement. It is ironical that the Government has made claims of healthcare while the fact is that high infant mortality rate in Government hospitals shall continue to haunt it. Infamous spurious drug scam and pathetic condition of its understaffed hospitals has been widely reported during its tenure.
With one year still left for it to complete its six years term, Omar led Coalition Government has lot of work to do to actually stand equal to the claims made by it in its mega advertisement.
