No-confidence in Omar | Interesting, Cong, BJP speak the same language | | Rustam
JAMMU, Oct 3: One can very well understand when the BJP, arch political rival of the pro-autonomy National Conference, expresses no-confidence in the Omar Abdullah-led utterly failed NC-Congress coalition government and questions its very credibility and demad a detailed ground report on the flood situation in the state so that an appropriate action on it could be taken. Former BJP state president and chairman of the state election campaign committee Nirmal Singh on Friday lambasted the state government, opposed the suggestion that the assembly elections in the state be held on due dates and accused various political parties of politicizing the devastation caused by floods. But more than that, Singh charged the Omar Abdullah-led coalition government with failing the flood-affected people. He was addressing a press conference in Srinagar, along with other BJP activists. However, what should surprise everyone in the state was what Congress spokesperson and son of JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz said the same day. He spoke for and on behalf of the flood-affected people of the state, endorsed without any reservation and qualification their complaint that assessment of flood damage was being done in a "biased" manner and, like the BJP, demanded that the report prepared by the state government in this regard be made public. "The Government of Jammu & Kashmir (of which the Congress is the most crucial constituent) should make public the flood assessment reports of the Revenue Department and make them available to people in all the affected villages in the flood-hit state," Salman Soz said. He also took the opportunity to make other revelations. He said that the people of various flood-hit districts complained that "assessment officers only met politically-connected persons" and did not include names of everybody who suffered damage to property. "Politicians appear to be interfering with the process of identifying victims who have suffered damage to property and loss of livelihood. It is shameful that even at a time of such calamity, people are playing politics," he was quoted as saying. The intervention of Soz was as scathing as that of the BJP, but what the former said also once again indicated that there was no love lost between the Congress and the NC. The Congress is not missing any opportunity to run down the government ignoring the fact that by condemning the state government the Congress leader is also condemning his own party. The fact of the matter is that the Congress, like the NC, is sailing in the same boat. |
