HDD organizes handloom awareness camp 1/19/2015 10:27:36 PM Early Times Report Reasi, Jan 19: Handloom Development Department (HDD) today organized publicity-cum-awareness camp here at Deylote. During the camp department aware wearer and ancillary weaving workers about various schemes being implemented for socio-economic upliftment of the weaving artisans. Assistant director, Handloom Development Department, Manu Hansa, chaired the programme and stressed that the weavers to avail the benefit of financial package under the scheme namely "weavers credit card" so that investment needs as well as working capital needs of the weavers could be met in flexible and cost-effective manner through the 'NABARD' by the Ministry of Textile, Government of India. To avail the benefit, Handloom weavers are required to apply in a bank on the prescribed application form. He advised the weavers to modernize the profession by replacing pit-looms, with fly shuttle/take up motion looms and introduction of new design, so that production as well as the quality of the handloom product shall improve. Hansa assured Weavers that every possible assistance from Handloom Development Department and also requested more people to come forward and start their own handloom units and avail benefits of various schemes offered by the department. He said that main aim of organizing this camp is to create greater awareness amongst the weaver community about various state and centrally sponsored welfare schemes.
