Villagers accuse Sarpanch for smuggling timber | | | Saahil Suhail

Kulgam, Jan 19: Residents of Village Check-e-Wattoo in DH-Pora area of Kulgam district on Monday accused village head (Sarpanch) of smuggling timber from the forest depot. Village residents told Early Times that the village head (Sarpanch) is smuggling timber in nexus with the Forest Department employees in day broad light. "He (Sarpanch) is looting the jungles and smuggling the timber from forest depot of the village. Employees of the Forest department are helping him." Mohd Ashraf, a resident accused the Sarpanch. Residents claimed that the Sarpnach Manzoor Ahmad very recently chopped of green trees in nearby forest and despite broinging the incident into the notice of higher officials of the forest department by them; no action was taken against the sarpanch. "It seems he is giving share to forest department employees and officials due to which no action is being taken against him." Locals alleged. DFO Kulgam, when contacted defended the village head (Sarpanch) and told Early Times that everything was normal. "Everything is alright let me assure you." He said. "These accusations are result of a confrontation that is going on between the groups of two major political parties in the village for past few days. Let me assure you situation is under control and nobody will be allowed to loot the timber meant for villagers." DFO added. |
