JAMMU, Jan 19: Running for glory and brilliance in a long distance race, the three marathoners from Jammu took part in the twelfth edition of prestigious Standard Chartered Mumbai Marathon (SCMM) held at Mumbai on January 18. The three Jammuites who ran in the internationally acclaimed Mumbai Marathon include veteran Marathoner- Rajesh Padha, who for the second time in his career participated in a full marathon along with his son Mrigank Upadhyay and Kannaw Shrivatsa, a young enthusiast for long distance running. The passion for running long distance running for these three Jammuites could be gauged from the fact that Kannaw Shrivatsa, who is working as a Structure Design Engineer in Halcrow International in Dubai had come all the way from the Arab country to take part in the race. Shrivatsa, who had taken up long distance running for the last two years in Dubai and ran several races there but it was first such experience for him to be a participant in Mumbai Marathon. On the other hand, Rajesh Padha is vastly experienced in running road races as he had participated in last year's Mumbai Marathon as well along with a participant in four versions of Delhi Half Marathon viz-a-viz taking part in four J&K Police Half Marathons held every year in Jammu. Taking part in the 'Senior Veteran' category of 42.20 Kms long SCMM-2015, Rajesh Padha clocked 5:05:42 hours and his son Mrigank had timings of 5:41: 42 hours while Kannaw Shrivatsa completed the marathon in less than five hours as his timing to finish the race stood at 4:51 hours. "The running conditions were harsh as the climate is hot and humid in Mumbai nowadays… The race started at 5:40 A.M in the morning… This year it was a tough call for me as earlier I had shin splint and doctor had advised me full rest for six months but I overruled my doctor's advice as I couldn't resist the temptation to run Mumbai Marathon since it is more than a passion for me," said Rajesh Padha. "Against all odds I finally managed to take part and complete the race ultimately with a satisfactory timing…I believe that if you have strong determination you can do anything even if situation is demanding," he added. |
