30th Youth Festival in JU concludes, GNDU emerges 'Overall Champions' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 19: 5 day North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival "UDGHOSH held at University of Jammu came to an end today with an impressive valedictory function held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium. Overall championship based on comprehensive results of individual/group items was lifted by GNDU and Lovely Professional University, Jallander was the runner up. In his address, the chief guest Prof Sudhir K Jain, Vice Chancellor, SMVDU wished expansion of the youth festival with participation increasing five-folds. He also outlined the importance of cultural activities in leading a healthy and balanced life. Earlier Prof R D.Sharma, Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu said that it is not the end of 'UDGOSH but beginning of new friendship discovered in these five days & fostering of the new alliances forged and nurturing hidden talent discovered in UDGOSH & further refining of the established talents of our budding stars from 25 Universities of seven states of Northern India . As per precedence, the observer appointed by All India Universities Association (AIU) gave his formal observation regarding the festival. In his address as the observer Prof Arun Patil, praised Jammu University for holding the festival in a smooth fashion. He ended his speech by asking audience to give a standing ovation to Jammu University. Prize distribution ceremony was marked by exceptional enthusiasm and appreciation by audiences. The first and second position holders of various events of UDGOSH have qualified for the National Youth Festival to be held in Indore in February, 2015. Section wise championship of musical activities, theatrical, literary activities, fine arts and dance were given to Lovely Professional University, Jallandhar, Panjab University, Chandhigarh, Panjab University, Chandhigarh, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar respectively. JU's performance in the competition was also praise worthy as JU lifted runner up trophy in the music section and third position in literary activities and fine arts, which resulted in JU winning third position in overall championship. Meantime the participants of JU in western solo, western group song, classical vocal, group song Indian, skit, debate and installation have qualified for the National Youth Competition due to securing first and second positions. JU also won third position in elocution, poster making and folk dance competition. In the separate category of cultural possession University of Kashmir bagged first position followed by University of Jammu and Hemvati Nandhan Bahuguna University, Garhwal in 2nd and 3rd place respectively. Prof Pankaj Srivastav, Dean Students Welfare briefed the gathering about the of proceedings and events of last five days. Earlier Prof Parmeshwari Sharma, Chairperson Campus Cultural Committee presented welcome address and vote of thanks was presented by Prof Sameer Gupta, Co-Chairperson, Campus Cultural Committee . |
