Contractors demand ` 800 Cr of pending bills since Q1 FY | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Jan 20 : Central Contractors Coordination Committee today held a protest demonstration at Central Treasury Srinagar against the government's failure to release their bills which are pending with various departments since first quarter the current financial year. The protest demonstration was led by its J&KCCCC General Secretary Farooq Ahmad Dar in which contractors from various districts participated. The protesting contractors also met Treasury Officer at Residency Road Central Treasury and apprised him of the hardships the contractors are facing due to the non-clearance of the bills. The contractors alleged that bills worth Rs 800 crore are pending with the various departments for since the start of the current financial year. "Government is doing sheer injustice with contractors which are also affecting developmental works in the Valley. Bills worth Rs 800 crore are pending with government departments which are not released for unknown reasons," said Farooq Dar. JKCCCC apprehended that if government did not release payments and further funds for the development of Valley's infrastructure, the funds will lapse and also be diverted to Jammu. "Winter has already set in and the current financial year is also coming to close. If funds for infrastructure are not released, then only either Jammu will be benifitted or the funds will lapse," said JKCCCC General Secretary.
