Jammu Zimkhana, Khalsa XI win inaugural ties

JAMMU, Feb. 27: Jammu Zimkhana and Khalsa Cricket XI won their respective matches on the inaugural day of the Jammu City Twenty20 Cricket Cup, organised by Jammu Police under Civic Action Programme at Parade Ground, here today.
Earlier, in the first match of the day, Jammu Zimkhana defeated Mayank Goswami Cricket Academy (MGCA) XI by a big margin of 62 runs.
Batting first, Jammu Zimkhana XI set a target of 129 runs with Amar (33), Sahil (24) and Jagjit (11) being the main scorers. Sourav took four wickets and Ajay clinched two while Aman and Abdul shared apiece each.
Later, MGCA XI could not achieve the target and bundled out for 66 runs in 15 overs thereby lost the match by 62 runs. Ajay was the only batsman, who could touch the double figure mark with 12 runs in his account. From Zimkhana XI, Satwant took three wickets while Sahil bagged two. Akash claimed one wicket . For his three wickets haul, Satwant was adjudged man of the match.
Meanwhile, in another scheduled match of the day, Khalsa XI scripted a thrilling last ball win against Guru Nanak Club.
Batting first, Guru Nanak Club made 103 runs in 16 overs. KD (37), Rahul (18) and Gora (13) were main contributors to the team's total. Ricky and Manu bowled brilliant spells from Khalsa XI taking away three and two wickets respectively.
In reply, Khalsa Club achieved the target in last ball of the over with a huge six hit by Harneet Singh, who made highest 36 runs. Sonu (22) and Gurpreet (11) were other contributors to the Khalsa Club total.
Rahul and Sunny picked two wickets each, while KD and Aman shared one each from Guru Nanak Club.
Harneet Singh was named man of the match. Today's matches officiated by the technical penal comprising Sanju, Vinod Kandayara and Nitu Khokher.
Earlier, the competition declared open by SP City, S K Chouhan, who was chief guest. He interacted with the teams competing in the inaugural matches and encouraged the boys to take up sports in a big way.
The event is being held under the under the supervision of SDPO City, Perbeet Singh Parihar. Also present were Rajesh Gill, Inspector KK Gupta, SI Farid, SI Rahul Mahajan, SI Rajesh, SI Deepak, SI Sunil Singh, SI Ashiq Lone, SI Nitin Khajuria, Vijay Saberwal, Asif Gill, Rajesh Dhar and RP Singh.
FIXTURE: Jammu Tawi Cricket Club shall take on Christian Sports Organisation tomorrow.
