Yasin Malik acknowledges 'defeat' | NC leader or separatist? | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 27: After failing to sabotage the alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) separatists have kickstarted hate campaign against both the parties, the JKLF Chief Mohammad Yasin Malik made a beginning by addressing a news conference in Srinagar on Thursday and by declaring that both the parties have entered into an "unholy alliance." The JKLF Chief acknowledged that India has defeated the separatist cause and has succeeded in changing the discourse in the strife torn state. However, he vowed that they (separatists) would regroup and rise again. Malik, who after laying down the arms, claimed that he would follow Gandhi's ideology of Ahmisa, during the Omar Abdullah led regime rarely came out in open to castigate the NC-Cong regime nor did he ever issue a statement against the former chief minister. Sources claimed that National Conference had a "soft corner" towards Malik and he was one of the few separatists who were given a "free hand" by the erstwhile regime led by Omar Abdullah to carry on with their activities. "It seems Omar Abdullah being shown the door has pinched Malik and by objecting to PDP-BJP alliance he has hinted at the possibility of what could be making the going tough for the new regime which would be in place within next to three days. "Malik's reaction was expected as he has made an attempt to appease the NC working president Omar Abdullah by training guns at the PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his alliance partner BJP," said an analyst. He was of the opinion that Malik spoke in Omar's language and it seemed as if NC leader is talking to media and not a separatist. "One fails to understand that on one hand Malik claims that his ideology is entirely different and any party forming the government in Jammu and Kashmir hardly makes a difference to him but on the other hand he gave an impression that he is very much perturbed due to PDP and BJP joining the hands," the analyst added. He said during the past six years state government never objected to Malik's frequent visits to Pakistan and allowed him have his way. "It seems NC and JKLF enjoyed a tacit understanding and none of them came in each other's way from 2008 to 2014. Omar Abdullah earned the distinction of being the only Chief Minister in JK's history since 1996 who attended funeral prayers in JKLF bastion, Masiuma," he added. Pertinently Omar had attended the funeral prayers of a veteran journalist, Khwaja Sonaullah, founder of Urdu daily Aftab, at Lal Chowk despite security agencies having advised Omar against it. "Malik had assured Omar that nothing will happen," the analyst claimed. Yasin Malik by addressing a news conference in Srinagar ahead of the government formation has made it clear that PDP and BJP joining hands in JK has not gone well with separatists at least his outfit JKLF. "There is every possibility about NC may have asked Malik to attack Mufti to create confusion in the minds of people and to demonize the regime which is yet to take the final shape," the analyst said. He said that many people in Kashmir are unable to digest the fact that Jammu region would get the due representation in the new government and the people of Jammu no longer would remain subservient to Kashmiris. "It seems PDP-BJP coalition will have to tread a cautious path in coming days as Kashmir based politicians, including the separatists, are ganging up to make things difficult for the new regime," the analyst added. |
