Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 2: If inputs from various intelligence agencies were relied on militants, operating in Jammu and Kashmir, were trying to exploit the current flood related situation for expanding their network and for targeting vital Government installations.
Official sources today said in Jammu that security forces, including police and Army, wer e engaged in carry ing out relief and rescue measures in areas hit by floods and landslides. Finding that since majority of security forces had been deployed on flood duty militants could carve out new hideouts and recruitment drive for enlisting able bodied youth in their outfits.
In support of their claim that militants were trying to rebuild their bases official sources referred to the Thursday's encounter between the security forces and militants in a village in Tangmanrg where one policeman and one soldier were killed and several others were wounded.
Two security personnel were killed and one Army man and a civilian injured in an ongoing gunfight that erupted between militants and security forces at Hardespora village in north Kashmir's Baramulla district. Acting on a tip off about the presence of militants in Kunzer village, security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area. The gun battle broke out when militants opened fire on the security forces, who in response retaliated Police said: "One policeman was killed in the encounter while an Army jawan who was injured also succumbed to his injuries at a hospital.
Following this incident a fresh aleret has been sounded all over the st ate with inst ructions to the security forces and the Army to step up anti-insurgency operations for which separate teams needed to be set up.While a few teams of police, paramilitary forces and the Army were to continue their relief and rescue operations in flood affected areas other teams should be asked to focus on containing militant activities.
