'Kashmir legislators oppose Rs 1 cr of extra amount to Jammu, Jammu leaders offer Rs 1600 crore AIIMS on platter to Kashmir
4/3/2015 7:23:41 AM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 2: The clamour and outcry of Kashmir legislators in the Legislative Assembly, alleging discrimination with Kashmir over the release of paltry additionality of Rs one crore in Power Sector for damaged transformers of Jammu region, should serve as an eye opener for the "highly submissive" legislators from Jammu region. The agitation of Kashmir region MLAs was note-worthy who united irrespective of their party affiliations and turned the heat in the Assembly to a furnace despite an insignificant amount being involved in allocation of power sector funds for Jammu. The BJP leaders, who have been maintaining silence over crucial issues, including those which were manifested in their vision document as well as the CMP need to take a lesson from Kashmir counterparts who forget the petty personal interests and got united to safeguard the interests of their core constituency.
It's really unfortunate that whereas the Kashmir legislators are not prepared to compromise on even Rs one crore extra funds given to Jammu region, the leaders of BJP quietly surrendered Rs 1600 crore AIIMS project to Kashmir offering the same on a platter to appease their coalition partner for crumbs of power alone.
Jammu people and electorates have a right to question the criminal silence and utter imbecility of their representatives in safeguarding their rights.
There is no doubt about the fact that there should be no divide on the basis of region or religion but the tall claims of government to end discrimination against Jammu region and ensuring equitable treatment to all regions must be strictly honoured.
Kashmir based legislators were agitating over Rs one crore of additional funding given to Jammu region, it was shocking to that none could remind them of 70% share in all funding going the Kashmir way in almost all department including Tourism, Power, Water, R&B besides employment avenues.
The BJP legislators should give up their lame duck posturing and abandon the policies of duplicity and deceit. They need to vigorously rake up the settlement of issues which have been assured by them.
It's the duty of Jammu based legislators to rake up the issues of restoration of AIIMS to Jammu region, PRC rights to West Pak refugees, Issuance of Dogra certificates to Jammu youth, Abolition of custodian deptt. and conferment of ownership rights to occupants, End of discrimination against Jammu region, Defreezing of seats earmarked in Sec 48 of J&K constitution and provision of 5 seats out of the same for PoJK migrants, State govt jobs to WPRs, State subject rights to the children of daughters married outside state besides other issues explicitly mentioned by the BJP in its vision document during the recent Assembly Elections.
