jammu, Apr 2: Belying claims of the government to take higher education to the door steps of the students, University of Jammu continues to deny a centre of its entrance examination to various PG courses (JUET) to Kishtwar, where about two thousand students are expected to take the said test.
While talking to "Early Times", several students on the condition of anonymity said that despite repeated request to the university authorities, the JUET center was denied to Kishtwar but still hoped that JU authorities will keep their word this year and sanction JUET center for Kishtwar. They said that Kishtwar District is a hilly and unconnected area and it is very difficult for the students to reach Jammu.
"It normally took me two days to reach Kishtwar by foot and it will take one more day for me to reach Jammu for appearing in the test" said a student hailing from remote Marwah area of Kishtwar District. He said that Marwah, Warwan, Dachhan areas of the District area without road and communication and added that students living in these areas face lot of inconvenience. He said that the students belonging to these areas are poor and cannot effort to travel to Jammu or any other place for appearing in the test. Similar views were also expressed by the students hailing from Padder area of the District. Like Marwah, the student from remote villages of Padder also required two days to reach nearest roadside, and many students going to appear in these entrance tests are under tremendous pressure.
A group of girl students informed "Early times" that it is very difficult for them to reach Jammu without the help of their parents added that under present law and order situation, it is very difficult for them to travel alone to such a far off place. They said that students of Kishtwar District also wanted to compete with the students of other parts of the country and added that due to lack of infrastructure in the state many girls left the studies mid way after finishing the college. They demanded introduction of more courses in Kishtwar university campus of Jammu University. They said that when Jammu University Campus was functional at Kishtwar, the University authorities must not have any problem in opening of JUET center at Kishtwar.
When contacted Satya Bushan Assistant Registrar in the office of Dean Academic Affairs informed that university has yet to take a final call on establishment of JUET centers, added that as and when the issue comes for discussion and deliberation, the demand of establishment of JUET center at Kishtwar will be looked into.
