Omar's appeal They hate India and Indians, but not Indian tourists | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 2: They, barring a few exceptions, do not appreciate India, Indians and Indian laws. Most of them consider India an alien country and describe its presence in Jammu and Kashmir unlawful and against their will. They say that "India is controlling Jammu and Kashmir with force" and that the "Indian Army and paramilitary forces are not required in the state". They dismiss with contempt all the Indian laws. They do not want any person other than a Kashmiri to settle and work in Kashmir. They do not like those who come to Kashmir to seek means of livelihood and charge them with "polluting the Kashmiri society". They oppose tooth and nail the West Pakistan refugees and condemn those who support their human cause and demand citizenship rights for them as anti-Kashmir. They say that these refugees, who have been languishing in Jammu for more than six decades now, if granted citizenship rights, would alter the demography of the state and erode the state's separate status. At the same time, most of them want the Indians to visit Kashmir as tourists and spend as much as they could to enrich the Kashmiri economy and the people there. They even preach lies so that they could fleece the Indian nation and lead a luxurious life at the cost of the Indian taxpayers' money. On Tuesday, NC working president, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in the assembly Omar Abdullah appealed to the Indians not to cancel their trips to Kashmir and visit the Valley in large numbers. "Those of you with bookings to visit Kashmir please PLEASE don't rush to cancel. Instead, I request you wait to see how things develop," Omar wrote on twitter. He said the tourism industry had bad year since the September floods last year. "The Tourist industry had a disastrous Autumn & a really bad winter because of the floods. Finally things were looking up in April. Now because of the recent rains & accompanying news stories hotels are reporting up to 40% cancellations which is a disaster for them. So my earnest appeal to you is please keep the faith, don't rush to cancel. Wait to see how the next few days go & then decide," he also wrote. There was nothing wrong with his appeal. Kashmir belongs to India and Indians must visit Kashmir and other parts of the state in great numbers. Their visit to Kashmir helps the process of integration of the Valley into India. Their visit to and stay in the Valley also further the national cause in Kashmir. What Omar Abdullah said in his tweet is not the issue. The issue is the problems they create for India in Kashmir and the manner in which they speak a blatant lie to loot and plunder the Indian exchequer. Take, for example, Omar Abdullah's stand on Jammu and Kashmir vis-à-vis New Delhi. He and his party demand greater autonomy and rollback of all the central laws and central institutions. He and his colleagues in the party say that the accession of the state to India is limited as per the Instrument of Accession. The Instrument of accession limits the jurisdiction of New Delhi over Jammu and Kashmir to just three subjects - defence, foreign affairs and communication. But Omar Abdullah repeatedly says that the jurisdiction of New Delhi over the state is limited to defence, foreign affairs, communication and finance. The Instrument of Accession nowhere talks about the financial relations between the state and the centre. He didn't speak the truth on the floor of the assembly as Chief Minister, when he questioned the Parliamentary resolution on Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir and stated that "by repeating the words 'atoot ang, you cannot change the political status of the state". It is regrettable that the likes of Omar Abdullah behave in such an irresponsible manner and widens gulf between the state and New Delhi and at the same time, make appeals to Indians not to cancel their trips to the Valley so that the Kashmir economy is enriched . They cannot fool the countrymen, as they have understood their game plan. |
