Jammu, Apr 2 : In the wake of incessant rains, resulting floods in various parts of the valley, General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society Roma Wani today visited the affected areas of Srinagar along with a team of Red Cross First Medical Responders and volunteers. Roma Wani also visited the Relief Camp set up at Marriage Hall Sanantnagar, jointly by the Govt. and District Red Cross Committee, Srinagar, and after on spot needs assessment, distributed Hygiene kits, towels and Tarpaulin sheets among the affected people camped there. Similar relief material was distributed among the affected families who have been accommodated in 'Era complex', Rambagh. While conducting various coordination meetings with the Govt. and assuring full support to the efforts of State Govt., as an auxiliary to deal with any emergency situation, Roma Wani said that the State Branch is all set to support the District Red Cross Units to meet the additional requirement of relief material if need arises. She further appealed people living in flood prone areas to move to safer places and cooperate and coordinate with the administration and volunteers in dealing with the situation. Meanwhile, rescue and relief teams have been constituted at all the vulnerable places, especially in the Srinagar where water logging has thrown life out of gear. The IRCS, J&K State office has been made operational 24x7 despite heavy water-logging in its premises at Exchange Road, Srinagar. The staff and volunteers have been alerted to be ready to mobilize the relief stocks for distribution among the affected population. |
