Gender profiling, Literacy Survey launched

Jammu, Apr 2 : District Administration, Kathua, has initiated Gender Profiling of villages and Literacy Survey along with the Crop Inspection started from 1st April 2015 which will go for a month. During the period of Girdawari the revenue staff has been directed for doing survey of each household apart from Girdawari in respective fields. Deputy Commissioner, Kathua, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary informed that since Kathua figures among 100 districts of country with poorest gender ratio and Child Sex Ratio, a number of measures have been taken to create awareness, involve community and strengthen legal framework to improve gender ratio. SWABHIMAN mission was launched by administration in November 2014 with an aim to increase the gender ratio. Likewise, district administration is also emphasising in tracking illiterates and ensuring improvement in literacy rate under an organised campaign coterminous with Sakshar Bharat Mission. While, a district control room has been established at Kathua to monitor progress of Girdawari, Gender Profiling and Literacy Survey during the month ling drive under the supervision of Addl Deputy Commissioner, Dr Mushtaq Ahmed. Complaints can be made by general public on Helpline numbers 01922-234579 and 01922-234007 regarding absence of staff in field on designated dates. Daily schedule of Girdawari and field visit has been issued. During the month long process, apart from Girdawari (Rabi-2015) the revenue field staff will visit every household to obtain information on number of family members, gender ratio, number of literates and other issues. The village data will serve as base for village level interventions planned by district administration. Revenue staff has also been deputed for immediate assessment of losses inflicted on crops due to recent rainfall and hailstorm in various areas. Moreover, the Bunkers, Paths, Roads and other structures raised by border security forces and army without payment of compensation will also be assessed by revenue staff in Roznamcha Waqyati based on which the assessment of rent and compensation will be made in respect of land in border area.
