Police arrests forest official for 'illegal' sale of timber | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Apr 3: Police have arrested a Block Forest Officer in Handwara town of North Kashmir's Kupwara district for illegally selling timber to locals. The accused is said to be the brother-in-law of former Forest Minister Chaudhary Muhammad Ramzan. Sources said that the accused Block Forest Officer whom police identified as Muhammad Amin Wani alias Chaudhary used to sell timber illegally to locals and after every transaction used to prepare a fictitious receipt to legalize the deal. "We had been continuously receiving complaints about the accused officer. When we received the inputs that the accused once again has sold timber to a local namely Ghulam Nabi of Brari Angan illegally and has supplied him fake receipt, the Forest Protection Force team laid a naka near Brari Angan and seized the timber," said a forest official said wishing not to be named. Reports said that police acted swiftly after the confession made by Ghulam Nabi and arrested the BFO. Confirming the incident, a top police official said that the accused is in police remand for 15 days. "We have registered a case vide FIR number 12/2015 under section 409, 6 and 46 of Forest Act against him and investigation is going on," he said.
