Traffic snarls still on National Highway as jams occurs every fortnight | | | Shiv Dev Thakur Early Times Report
Jammu, April 3: Defeating the purpose of making hassle free traffic on Srinagar-Jammu Highway, the traffic Jams have become a routine due to failure of authorities concerned. Four lanning -an ambitious project under construction in Jammu and Kashmir with an aim to decongest traffic on Jammu- Srinagar has failed to prevent the frequent jams. According to reports, the ambitious project to which the people of state are waiting anxiously failed to prove helpful. Sources though with a sheer optimism believe that until project is likely to get completed the NHAI is charging toll. But sources in sharp contrast, said, there are bleak chances that the project will meet the problem of Traffic Jams as even after a month of its operation the problem is still there. Sources again said that though NHAI is functioning smoothly in all other states but the functioning of NHAI in J&K is not up to the expectations. A local told Early Times that the problem of Jams still exist and as the traffic jams persists till now even after the opening of four lanes. He said that NHAI is charging toll for the services which are not rendered by it as the people have to face Jams for 4 to 5 hours every fortnight. Officials NHAI when contacted said that the Jammu-Udhampur Road Widening is almost complete and is ready to be opened within 10 days. However when asked about the appearance of traffic jams, the officials said that the occurrence of kams only took place because of the stranded vehicles going to Srinagar. Project Director said that there is no provision of particular lanes for particular vehicles as in highways in mega cities like Gurgaon and this also adds to the occurrence of Jams. He further said that the problem will be solved soon after the people became used to it. |
