Resentment brews in PCC over 'unfair' appointments

Jammu, Apr 3: Undue favouritism for the 'privileged' class as well as preference for certain areas of the state while giving representation to leaders in the revamped J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has opened a Pandora's box as those who have been ignored are mincing no words in hitting out at the preferential treatment given to few individuals.
According to well placed sources within the PCC, the biased approach of the party has infuriated a section of the party leaders who are sulking over the treatment meted out to them and their core constituencies where they are actively working for strengthening the party.
Sources informed Early Times that the way the Congress High Command has extended a special and selective treatment to few individuals while giving a raw deal to others has sent wrong signals in the party circles.
"The resentment among party cadre is brewing up slowly but steadily because of the partisan -distribution of ranks in the reconstituted PCC. There are several instances where one could easily judge the partiality," the sources said.
While the party entrusted the job of Treasurer to Krishan Kumar Amla, his son Amit Amla was selected for the post of Secretary. Another glaring example of party's prejudice is handing over the post of Co-Treasurer to Rajneesh Sharma, who happens to be the son of former party leader Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma. If Mohammad Sharief Niaz is Executive Member of the PCC, his son Nadim Sharief Niaz was made Publicity Secretary of the party. Similarly Mohammad Abdullah Nadaf is an Executive Member, his kin Shaheena Nadaf was handed over the post of Secretary.
The prevalence of discrimination by the party High Command is not only towards the individuals but it is very much evident among the geographical spheres of the state as some areas have been given lion's share in the PCC while the others have been bestowed with a paltry allocation in the posts of office bearers.
While the total number of the party Committee is 144, as many as 50 members belong to Jammu district only. Here too the distribution of key posts is unequal as 35 members are from Jammu Urban wing of the party while the rest 15 are representing Jammu Rural wing.
"There is not even a single member among the office bearers from Reasi district from where the party is having two MLAs and one MLC while the Udhampur district has only single representative in the PCC that too in the form of Executive Member. The representation is given to ex-MLA Chenani Krishan Bhagat," the sources said.
"Ex-MLA Ramban, Ashok Dogra is sole representative as a functionary from Ramban district as he was chosen for the post of Secretary, though keeping in view of his seniority he should have been given a higher rank.. Party even ignored the fact that Congress presently has an MLA from Ramban district. Leh and Kargil regions also bore the brunt of gross injustice as the areas have the representation of only three leaders in the restructured PCC. Here again party doesn't take into account the fact that it has three MLAs from Ladakh," the sources added.
They asserted that former ministers have also been sidelined in the distribution of posts as there is no body from their constituencies with a sole aim of keeping at bay the second string of leaders.
"The second line of leadership has been completely ignored to keep former ministers in good humour. The emergence of new leaders is totally unacceptable to ex-ministers as they fear loosening of grip over their constituencies," the sources said.
