Vigilance to probe transfer racket of engineers in R&B dept | | | Peerzada Ummer Early Times Report srinagar, Apr 3: In its first major crackdown against corruption, the PDP-BJP government has directed the State Vigilance Commission (SVC) and State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) to probe the alleged racket of transfers of engineers in R&B department. Sources revealed to Early Times that a list of Junior Engineers, Assistant Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers and Executive Engineers who have not been transferred during the past six years from their respective place of postings has been prepared by the government and it has directed the SVO and SVC to hold a thorough probe. Sources said that in a blatant violation of the transfer policy, according to which no official is entitled to remain on his place of posting for more than three years, various wings of the R&B department have been throwing rules to wind and undermining the norms. It has been learnt from credible sources that scores of junior as well as senior engineers have been accorded lucrative postings in various sub-divisions and divisions of the department and they have not been transferred as the per the rules and regulations formulated by the government in the past. "There are some engineers who have not been transferred from the last more than seven years. Though the previous government was aware about this trend, their inaction led to corruption and nepotism ruling the roost," one of the senior officials divulged. He said the government had earlier received scores of complaints against various engineers in their respective places. But no action was taken against such officials as they were enjoying the patronage of various political groups in the state. "Now when the government has made its intentions clear that it would implement the transfer policy in letter and spirit, axe is likely to fall on several engineers who earlier had managed to undermine the norms," the official said. Earlier, Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on the floor of the legislative assembly said the transfer policy will be implemented in the state at an earliest in a bid to put lid over the corrupt practices. |
