Landslides kill 2 in Limber Valley | | | S.Tahir-Ul Haq Early Times Report
BARAMULLA, Apr 3: Landslides triggered by overnight rains claimed two lives in Limber area of Boniyar thesil in Baramulla district of North Kahsmir on Friday, while as 4 houses got partially damaged. According to sources due to incessant rains from past one week, landslides hit Limber area of Boniyar thesil in the afternoon of Friday. Abdul Majid War cousin of the deceased told Early Times that, "two persons were killed when a landslide struck them here in Limber village 7 kms away from Boniyar tehsil today. Abdul Jabbar War S/O Abdul Samad War and Muhammad Dilwar Mir S/O Ghulam Muhammad Mir 40 had gone to the forest area in Limber village of Uri tehsil to collect mushrooms when they came under a landslide, said Majid. War said that Abdul Jabbar died on the spot, while as Dilwar Mir was rescued by locals in a critically injured condition but succumbed to injuries on way to hospital. However local resident of Shahkote limber told Early Times that, due to inclement weather from past few days many households left from their houses towards safer places as landslides hit many higher altitude areas of Uri and Boniyar theisl. Locals said that the unprecedented heavy downpour continuing for the fourth consecutive day almost hundreds of people have abandoned their homes as rock-slides and landslides have created panic among the common masses of Uri and Boniyar tehsils. Three small bridges in Pringal and Shahkote area have suffered damage after their embankments were washed away in the torrential rains and bridges was closed by the concerned authorities after its embankment on one side was washed away, locals added. While as four houses were partially damaged including of Sonaullha War S/O Mohammad Ramzan War, Mohammad Shafi Bhat S/O Ghulam Ahmad Bhat, and Ghulam Mohr-Ud- Din War S/O Abdul Samad War of limber village in Bonyar thesi due to landslides, said locals. Meanwhile the prevailing bad weather condition in Valley Friday hit the cross-LoC trade as Red bridge near Kaman Setu was closed down after landslide hit the area prompting authorities to close Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road. Early times has learnt from sources that 50 to 60 villages in Uri continues to reel under darkness from past several days as the transmission line that supplies Grid Station Salamabad broke at Mohra in Uri thesil. |
