| National Conference legislators not ready to learn lessons from past | | Fail to come to rescue of rain affected people | | Jehangir Rashid

srinagar, Apr 3: After failing to come to the rescue of the affected people in September 2014 devastating flood, legislators belonging to National Conference have started finding faults with the steps taken by incumbent coalition government in the state following recent flood like situation.
Of late some of the NC legislators including the working president and former chief minister, Omar Abdullah have started visiting their constituencies that have been affected by recent rainfall. However, this time too, the NC legislators took more than desired time in reaching out to the affected people in their respective constituencies.
Ideally, the NC legislators should not have wasted time and moved to their respective areas as soon as they got the inputs that Kashmir valley may witness yet another flood due to the incessant rains. The NC legislators waited for the situation to turn ugly and then only they visited their respective constituencies.
As on date some of the legislators of National Conference are yet to visit their areas and talk to the affected people. MLA Eidgah and former speaker of legislative assembly, Mubarak Gul has failed to come up to the expectations of his electorate. He has not bothered to visit his constituency and as such this has drawn criticism from the affected people.
It would be in place to mention here that some of areas of the Eidgah constituency are settled along the banks of river Jehlum. People living in these areas faced difficult times after the recent rainfall, but still then they were ditched by their elected representative. Gul in fact was found wanting during the assembly session and he hardly talked about the difficulties of flood affected people.
MLA Budgam, Aga Syed Ruhullah wasted all these days in visiting his constituency despite the fact that some of the areas in his constituency were badly hit by the recent flood like situation. Instead of giving solace to the affected people, the MLA Budgam started finding faults with the steps taken by the state government in providing relief for the affected people.
Ruhullah accused the state government functionaries of taking part in gala events and doing nothing for people affected by flood like situation. Instead of going for the introspection, the MLA Budgam lives in a 'paradise' of 'fools' believing that his stunts would be admired by people, but not to be.
Pertinently, Omar had after the devastating flood of September 2014 acknowledged the fact that National Conference-Congress coalition government was missing on the ground for the days together. The worst performance of the state government then led to the defeat of many National Conference and Congress legislators in the 2014 assembly elections.
Legislators belonging to National Conference and Congress should have pulled up their socks as soon as they came to know that flood like situation is emerging not only in Kashmir, but also in some of the districts of Jammu division. Alas! They did not do so and as on date they continue to find holes in the performance of the present coalition government in the state. |
