People face heavy loss due to incessant rains in Pargwal, standing crops damaged | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 3: Incessant rains have created a heavy damage in Pargwal area of Khour tehsil with rains damaging standing crops but government has so far failed to take the cognizance of the same. The people in this entire belt are worried as entire crop has been damaged by heavy rains that lashed Jammu for last one week. The majority of people of the Pargwal belt which are dependent on farming and they earn their livelihood on account of the same. Considered a rice bowl of Jammu after RS Pura and Bishnah belt people in Pargwal fear worst as their sanding crops are lying asleep in fields due to heavy rains and hailstorm. ``The Government has been totally callous towards us as no one paid attention to look into the problem and assess the loss'', says Ram Kumar a farmer of Hamirpur. He said last year in September rains the farmers suffered a heavy loss due to rains and floods and several kanals of land in 15 km belt has been washed away by the river Chenab in September last year. But no one from Government came to our rescue and assess the damage, he added. Kumar said despite repeated pleas the Government has failed to construct the bandh along the river Chenab to save the area from floods and the people living near the bank of river Chenab face sleepless nights during the heavy rains and flash floods. During the heavy rains flood ghost always haunts us but there is no one in Government to look into the problem, says Kuldeep Manhas another resident of Pargwal. He said the political parties often come for votes to them and promise sky but after elections are over they forget every thing. Pargwal area sans basic development and people are facing many hardships due to lack of facilities for higher education and health care as there is no hospital in the area. The people have made an appeal to State government to look into the problem of the people by providing the compensation to them for the losses and damages suffered by them during last year floods and this year rains. Pinning high hopes in present coalition the people have sought immediate help from the State Government. The people said Pargwal area has always been neglected by successive governments despite the fact it faces threat from firing across the border and river Chenab. During the firing from across the border people have to take shelter in safer areas and many times we had to migrate from the area, said Manhas. The problem being grave from every side the government should look into it and find out an everlasting solution to the problem, he added. |
