Jammu, Apr 3: Expressing concern over the rampant and unprecedented corruption in building permission section of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) after the term of the house expired on 10th March'12 some former Corporator and political activists stated that it is high time for the present dispensation to review functioning of the corporation by depleting honest and competent officials and weed out corrupt elements.
Former corporator and Chairman health and sanitation committee Sanjay Mahey along with Narender Singh ex. Mayor said that the building permission wing is important part of the Municipal Corporation as it generates substantial revenue and during the term of the constituent house the revenue generated through this wing had crossed Rs. 10 crore mark but immediately after the term of the house expired, the revenue generation have nose-dived which is a result of mal practice in office of senior town planner and JMC including Chief Khilaf warzi Officer ( now Chief Revenue officer)have ganged up and are amassing huge amounts for themselves with impunity although some of them have been booked by the vigilance department.
While leveling charges against these corrupt officials, the concerned have raised some questions regarding the number of BOCA meetings held since lstApril'10, particularly from midyear 2012 till date and the amount of revenue generated during this period as hundreds of commercial buildings have come up in residential areas by floating lands use at. Also why building permissions are not being granted in a routine as per early practice and only those per since who enter into some kind of understanding with the officials of these wings are obliged whether they have obtained and attached the required NOCs from various departments as is mandatory under rules.
They made an appeal to the government of the day including the Deputy Chief Minister who is also Urban Development Minister of J&K State and known for consistency to take cognizance in the matter to segregate these aliments the interest of general public as well as Jammu since the people have pinned their hopes in this coalition government who have announced probity in public life providing transparency in administration and zero tolerance towards corruption.
