Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Agriculture Department and Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST) have reportedly abandoned their employees, who are caught by police, for their alleged involvement in mysterious death of a Gujjar near Chakroi Farm RS Pura, nearly fifteen days back.
Pertinently, under mysterious circumstance, Mohammed Faiz Ali, a Gujjar was found dead from a ditch near Chakroi farm, following which police had registered a case against six daily wagers of Agriculture department and SKUAST, working in Chakroi Farm, under section 302, 147, 146, 149 and 4/25 Arms Act.
"These suspects are Darshan Lal, Rohit Kumar, Ajay Kumar Ravinder Kumar all daily base employees of Agriculture department deputed at Chakroi Seed Production Farm while Sat Paul, Ranjeet Kumar of SKUAST.
Police had reportedly on March 23 arrested Darshan Lal, Rohit Kumar and Sat Paul while remaining accused, as per police were still absconding.
Family members of all the accused have alleged that departments have abandoned their employees as no support has been provided from the department side to the daily rated workers, presently under the custody of RS Pura Police. Leveling allegations against Police, the family members alleged that all the police personnel, investigating the case including former SHO, ASI are biased and have been targeting the daily wagers, as they are from different religion.
Milkhi Ram father of Darshan Lal (accused) while talking to Early Times informed that his son and other daily wagers informed that Farm Manager of Chakroi Farm had suspended Tarseem Lal (a daily wager) for alleged negligence of duty as some cattle of Gujjars had barged into Chakroi farm, despite availability of 30 daily wagers on night watch at Farm.
"On March 22, in the dead of night someone barged into Chakroi farm along with hundreds of buffalos for grazing the wheat crop. Daily wagers, guarding the farm, shouted and forced the buffaloes out of farm while the man behind the buffaloes fled from the spot", Milkhi Ram said, while quoting his son and other daily wagers accused in case.
Milkhi Ram further said, "My son and other daily wagers also informed that the person grazing the buffaloes, had jumped into the ditch, which surrounds the Chakroi farm, after which all of them returned". .
Milkhi Ram further alleged that Police officials had been taking side of the Gujjar family. "Former SHO Mohammed Abid Rafiqui, ASI Asiq Ali have deliberately framed my son and other daily wagers in the case", he alleged.
Mohinder Lal father of accused Rohit Kumar said that on March 23, at nearly 8 AM, all the relatives of deceased Faiz Ali, staged protest in front of Farm and started stone pelting in which two employees were injured. "The story created by police, is totally false as everyone is aware that ditch surrounds the farm and many cattle rearers left their animals in Chakroi farm during night for grazing. Daily wagers apprised the authorities, time and again about the issue but higher officials took the matter casually and harass the daily wagers for dereliction of duty", he said, quoting his son.
He further said that three daily wagers have been arrested by police but so far, not any official from department side met family members or the daily wagers in the police station. "Daily wagers are sandwiched between department officials and Gujjars as department punish daily wagers if Gujjars destroy crop and when workers are framed in a case by police, department officials have become silent", he said.
Bishan Dass, President of All India Trade Union said, they have been staging sit-in for the last many days and demanding for protection of daily wagers but getting only oral assurances.
Suresh Dubey, Manager of Agriculture Farm Chakroi said that without his intimation, the police arrested two daily wagers, adding, "He repeatedly written letters to police department but they have not replied so far on any of the letter. He further said that they have apprised the higher officials about the matter and would take appropriate action. Chanden Kohli, Incharge Police Station R S Pura said that until the investigation was going on, he was not authorized to speak someone on that matter. He assured that investigation would be in a total fair manner.
