Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 5: As the former chief minister and NC working president Omar Abdullah along with his 'comrades' is launching a tirade of accusations against PDP over joining BJP for government formation and undermining 'Kashmir's integrity', Omar perhaps has forgotten that he was the first person to offer support to the saffron party in a bid to remain in power for another six years in JK.
It all goes back to November 27, 2014 when the state polls were yet to get over and Omar- the then chief minister in public offered BJP his party's support so that the duo could jointly take over the reins of power in the state.
Omar while addressing a rally in Kashmir valley on November 27 when the state was in middle of set terms for a tie up with BJP in JK. The six conditions which Omar set for the BJP were: "Accept constitution of J&K; Accept J&K flag; Accept Article 370; Solve Babri to our satisfaction; Hold talks with Pak on J&K; No uniform civil code."
It was later when BJP rejected such terms, saying Omar is not in a condition to set terms for others. BJP while ridiculing the former chief minister said his government plundered the funds that came from centre to assist the people of state and to rebuild the Jammu and Kashmir.
BJP general secretary and PM Modi's close aide Ram Madhav in clear terms while rejecting Omar's offer said at that time Omar Abdullah and his party should concentrate on polls and he cannot dictate terms to anyone here. "Losers cannot be dictators. Instead of setting conditions for us, he should concentre on polls," Madhav had said while reacting to Omar's remarks.
Feeling BJP's pulse, Omar took the other way round, targeting the party and its policies. The confusing statements coming out from him only acted as a spoilsport for the already drubbed party. It didn't only create chaos among the ranks of National Conference but also made people sceptic about party's hidden agenda as a notion dominated the scenes that 'NC can do anything for remaining glued to power.'
Now, when government has been formed and Omar's offer to join BJP rejected much earlier, his accusations and jibes carry not weight before the observers who are witness to NC's and Omar's excitement to join BJP. "The history stands witness that NC was very much the part of BJP in the past. The offer that was made public by Omar Abdullah over joining BJP in the recent past cannot be ignored also. It would be the height of hypocrisy when NC targets PDP that too for joining hands with the BJP for the formation of government. Time has gone when the people of JK would have been fooled by such irrational statements and remarks," says Abid Kamli, a research scholar of political sciences here.
It is pertinent to mention that earlier the reports galore in press that Omar ahead of the government formation had sent two of his senior party men to holds talks with the BJP high command for jointly making the government in JK. Facing another spell of rejections, the leaders came home, asking Omar it is better to remain in opposition as all roads leading to secretariat seem to be shut.
