Kathua, Apr 5: Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir branch in collaboration with district Red Cross Committee, Kathua today organized a day long community awareness programme here at Govindsar.
According to press release, the programme was held at Government High School. Around 50 participants of various organizations including Red Cross Volunteers, Village level workers, ASHAs, Students, Teachers and representatives of some local NGOs and Panchayat members attend the programme.
The awareness programme was organized with an aim to develop community resilience to various emergencies and create awareness about the concept of First Medical Responders, First-Aid, Water & Sanitation and Health & Hygiene in rural areas.
General Secretary Indian Red Cross Society, J&K State, Roma Wani in her message to the participants said that Red Cross aims at developing First Responder groups at the grassroots level so that these groups are the first people among the community to respond to any emergency situation and that also in a more skilled way.
She further said that these trained groups will also be responsible to create awareness among their communities on Health, Hygiene, Water and Sanitation besides other humanitarian activities during normal times. During the programme, participants were also taken to a field visit to upper Govingsar village where they met the village Head and the Panchayat members and discussed the future plan of action regarding the awareness campaign started by Red Cross in the area. Representatives of various social groups and the Panchayat members assured full support to the Movement in its humanitarian mission. |
