Anger in BJP over ignoring plight of Chamel's family | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 5: There has been resentment among the BJP workers here against the party high command for ignoring the family of Chamel Singh and not providing them relief. Chamel was murdered inside the Kot Lakhpat jail in Lahore on January 15, 2013. His family continues to await justice and adequate compensation from the state/centre govt authorities. In the ongoing budget session, BJP MLA Sat Pal Sharma had raised the issue of compensation by asking a straight question. In response, the Home department informed the state assembly that there was not provision to grant ex-gratia relief in such cases while confirming no compensation has been paid to the kin of Chamel Singh. The BJP workers who used to organise protest agaisnt the UPA govt at the Centre are now contemplating similar protests agaisnt the BJP-PDP govt to pressurise the state govt to announce adequate compensation for Chamel Singh kin. Ironically, Dara Singh, elder son of Chamel Singh continues to face hardships in running the house hold expenditure. He said when his father was killed, the BJP government had demanded compensation from the Congress led govt but now the BJP is in power at the Centre and in the state but even then the family is awaiting justice from the authorities at the helm. He appealed to the state/centre govt to compensate the poor family at the earliest. |
