Margdarshan resolution of 1991 only solution to Pandits plight: PK | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 13: Expressing its strong resentment over the opposition to the government's move of a separate township for Kashmiri Pandits in Valley, Panun Kashmir today said no solution less except carving out a separate "homeland" with Union Territory status in Valley was acceptable to Kashmiri Pandits. "No solution less than homeland with union territory in Valley is acceptable to Kashmiri Hindus," Panun Kashmir convenor Dr Agnishekhar and its chairman Dr Ajay Chrungoo told reporters here. They said the carving out of a separate homeland as per Marg Darshan resolution of 1991 with Union Territory status on the North East of river Jhelum in Kashmir Valley for the rehabilitation of entire population of Kashmiri Hindus has become inevitable now. "The creation of Homeland has become an imperative and historical necessity not only for Kashmiri Pandits but also to stop Kashmir from becoming the new bastion for International terrorism and a sanctuary for Islamist terrorist enterprise," they said. Reacting to the opposition to the township for KPs, they said that the responses of the entire political class in Kashmir Valley to the issue of return of Kashmiri Hindus has brought it out glaringly that the spirit of secularism and coexistence is non-existent in its politics. "The expressions of different segments of Kashmiri leadership, separatist and so called non-separatist, religious and so called moderate, reveal it unambiguously that there exists in Kashmir a milieu which is neither Kashmiri nor Indian but essentially fundamentalist and exclusivist in nature," Dr Agnishakher said. Panun Kashmir calls upon all Indians to face the reality that in Kashmir the social and democratic space has been captured by a fundamentalist, totalitarian and religious monolith, he said. "Pretending otherwise will be very costly because a religious war against India continues unabated from its soil. Panun Kashmir watched with dismay and dejection the speech delivered by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on the issue of return of Kashmiri Hindus," he said. Criticizing BJP, Dr Chrungoo said Panun Kashmir is stunned that the new dispensation of BJP in New Delhi has chosen to adopt such an approach on the issue of Kashmiri Hindus and their return. "We are dismayed that BJP is transforming fast, wilfully or out of political naivety, into a over ground support structure for the subversive, fundamentalist and separatist enterprise in Jammu and Kashmir," Dr Chrungoo said. Panun Kashmir calls upon the Centre to relook and review its policies before it is too late, he said, adding that the type of democratic process which it evolved in Jammu and Kashmir has only lead to strengthening of those actors and structures in the democratic space which nourish separatism and fundamentalism. "Government of India has to understand soon that patronising and promoting Muslim communalism has only strangulated secularism in the state," Dr Chrungoo said. He said that the Central government has to also realise that promoting soft-secessionism through the democratic process has only made separatism self sustaining in the state. Dr Agnishkhar said that the tone and tenor of his speech was only complimentary to what the likes of Ali Shah Geelani or Yasin Malik hadsaid on the issue. "The speech only reflected a disdain and lack of sensitivity with regard to the expulsion of Kashmiri Hindus from Kashmir," he said. "It also reflected in clear terms that the Government was aiming only at a tokenistic return without addressing any fundamental issue," Dr Agnishakher said. |
