Jammu, Apr 13: In what can be termed as a sad state of affairs in education department, four out of six Zonal Educational Offices (ZEO) in Reasi are headless for the last six months, virtually impacting the education scenario of the district. Reasi district has six education Zones. In four of them, the posts of ZEO are lying vacant for six months. Headmasters of some schools are holding the charge of ZEOs nowadays. "If headmaster has to look after the whole responsibility of ZEO in these zones, why isn't government appointing them as permanent ZEOs?" one of the headmasters said, wishing anonymity. Sources said the headless Zonal Education Offices included Pouni , Chassana, Chinkah and Aranas. "As each education zone has a number of schools, the absence of ZEOs is severely affecting proper inspection and management of these institutions", they said, adding that the posts of ZEO were lying vacant for the reasons best known to the education authorities. In the absence of ZEOs, studies of students as well as the normal functioning of schools are getting adversely affected. All this is in the notice of the government but it too seems to be least bothered about these headless institutions. Ram Kumar, a resident of Chinkah, said that more than a hundred schools were running in Chinkah zone. In the absence of ZEO, there was no full-time supervisory authority to keep a check on the functioning of schools and attendance of teachers, he added. "The government has reiterated time and again that the schools run by it ought to perform better. How can they do so in the absence of adequate staff?" Ram asked. Chief Education Officer (CEO) Reasi, Ashok Kumar said the pendency report was being sent every month to the government and it "knows well about the vacant posts of ZEOs in Reasi district". |
