Erring' traders booked, LMD imposes Rs 26000 fine | | | Early Times Report
Reasi, Apr 13: Legal Metrology department (LMD), Reasi booked two traders under relevant provisions of Weights and Measures Act/ Packaged Commodity Rules for violations and the offences were compounded for a sum of Rs 26000. According to press release, the team was headed by Assistant Controller LMD Reasi- Rajesh Heera and it conducted intensive checking of various business establishments especially Wholesale Dealers, Karayana shops, Bakery Shops, Bhaint Shops at Katra main Bazar, Ban Ganga Road, Bus stand and adjoining areas. Two traders were booked under relevant provisions of Weights and Measures Act/ Packaged Commodity Rules for violations like less use of defective/ uncertified weighing & Measuring instruments, non adherence to mandatory declarations like MRP/PKD and other information on the goods which are being packed in the absence of purchaser. On pleading guilty, the offences were compounded for a sum of Rs 16000 as composition money with the assurance that the said offences will not be repeated in future, failing which their cases will be sent to the court of Law for stringent action. The Department also booked one gas agency for violation of various provisions of J&K weights and Measures Enforcement Act 1997 and the case was compounded for Rs 10,000 by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Reasi. All the traders were also directed to use only verified Weights and Measures for business transactions and display MRP, PKD, Net Contents and complete address and Consumer care Number on the Commodities to be sold in packaged form. The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist away from using unfair trade practices and also appealed to the consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the Commodities. |
