| 125th Birth Anniversary of BR Ambedkar celebrated | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 14: To commemorate 125th birthday of Bharat Ratna Babasaheb Dr B.R. Ambedkar, an impressing function was organised by the Jammu University SC/ST Employees Association and also presented 'Ambedkar Award' to SK Shavotra.
Speaking on the occasion, the Association president RL Kaith said Dr Ambedkar was a great national leader of twentieth century. He was an intellectual scholar and statesman who contributed greatly in the nation building. He led a number of movements to emancipate the downtrodden masses and to secure human rights to millions of depressed classes. He has left an indelible imprint through his immense contribution in framig the Constitution of free India. He stands as a symbol of struggle for achieving the social justice.
Kaith said the aim of instituting Ambedkar Award is to give an honourable tribute to the great leader as well as make contribution towards social activists working for various social causes.
The special invitees lauded the efforts of Kaith and his Association colleagues for organising such a beautiful programme. The Association proposed to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir that a State Commission for SC/STs on the lines of National Commission for SCs & National Commission for STs, be set up with power of the Civil Court.
The Association members presented 'Dr B.R Ambedkar Award' to JU Section Officer S.K. Shavotra for his constant service rendered to promote and advance the education of public in the teachings of Dr Ambedkar. He appreciated the Association and described the award presented to him as the noblest.
Youth Congress Unit Samba celebrated 125 birth anniversary of Dr B.R Ambedkar under the Leadership of Vinod Kumar District Youth President Samba. A large numbers of youth congress workers were also present on this occasion and tribute to Ambedkar.
Among others those present in the function including Sunil Kumar, Balveer Kumar, Manoj Vijay Kumar, Manish, Jagdish and others.

In his address FC Bhagat PDP leader and president, All J&K Shri Sad Guru Kabir Sabha throw light on the life and philosophy of Baba sahib.
He called Baba Sahib an icon of social democracy and greatest reformer of Hindu society. "It was difficult and impossible to break the centuries' old barriers of casteism erected by manusmriti in Hindu society but Ambedkar sahib by dint of his sheer intellect and hardwork was able to do so by struggling for years together. Finally declaring untouchability as an offence and keeping the provision of reservation, right to education and right to vote for dalits in the constitution of India", he said, adding that Baba sahib followed the teachings of "Kabir" who was a great saint and social reformer.
He further said that for all these people who kept the tradition of remembering a great man and his legacy alive, it is nothing short of a festival.
