Issueless, separatists may spoil tourist season | 'Tame them before it's too late' | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 14: Issueless separatists are hell bent upon ruining the tourist season in Kashmir and are looking for a chance to somehow create disturbance in the Valley which has been facing tremendous financial crunch since September 2014 after witnessing the worst floods of the century. This time around JKLF Chief Yasin Malik is one the forefront and has been criticizing every move of the Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Malik was the first separatist who called for a shutdown soon after Mufti announced that Kashmiri Pandits would be rehabilitated in the Valley. Since the day PDP-BJP dispensation has taken over the reins of the state, Malik has left no stone unturned to target the government and JKLF is virtually acting as an opposition party. Interestingly, when Omar Abdullah was the chief minister, Malik rarely used to make noise and he refrained from castigating Omar giving credence to the speculations that JKLF is close to National Conference. People, particularly the business community, are worried about the developments taking place as tourism season is about to begin. Businessmen fear that if separatists are allowed to carry on with their activities it can have far reaching consequences and can hit the tourism season which was cut short due to floods last year. A Kashmir based businessman, who wished not to be named fearing reprisal, while talking to Early Times said, "Separatists are looking for issues as they are becoming irrelevant with each passing day. People observe shutdown due to fear as they don't want their business establishments to be ransacked." The businessman said that if separatists succeed in triggering yet another controversy it could prove to be the last nail in the coffin of the business community which is already grappling with the losses it suffered during 2014 floods. "The state government should act against all the trouble mongers who for the sake of publicity and to appease their bosses sitting across the Line of Control want to vitiate the atmosphere in Kashmir," he added. Separatists turning heat on the government has become a cause of concern for the people. Hurriyat hardliner Syed Ali Shah Geelani who would be arriving in Kashmir on Wednesday has called for Hyderpora chalo on his arrival from New Delhi. "Geelani would never tolerate anyone else taking the lead. It seems he (Geelani) too has observed that Malik is trying his best to somehow ignite the fire. Had Geelani not taken notice of Malik trying to lead from the front he would have never called for Hyderpora chalo at least on his arrival from national capital where he spent winter months," opined a critic. He said that separatists are trying to score points over each other and to do so they can stoop down to any level. "Having a soft policy towards separatists and terror can push Kashmir back on the edge and there is every possibility of 2010 being repeated," the critic added. Referring to Tral encounter where a militant and a civilian were killed on Monday, the critic said, "Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called for a shutdown in Tral area on Wednesday and Tral chalo on Friday while Yasin Malik and Masrat Alam, who was released recently, tried their best to reach Tral to add fuel to the fire but Police foiled their designs. Government should take a note of the activities of separatists and tame them before it's too late." |
