Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 14 : In an open display of nepotism and favoritism, the University of Jammu has recently accorded sanction to few contractual employees in contravention of the set norms.
Highly placed sources in the university disclosed that one Suresh Kumar, who was appointed as sanitary Supervisor on contractual basis in 2005, has been adjusted as sanitary inspector as per order number 21685/89 dated 31/3/2015.
The adjustment of Suresh has been made in utter violation of the laid down norms as, after serving the varsity as contractual employee, he was to be adjusted against same post, but he has been elevated to the post of sanitary inspector that has shocked many in the varsity.
"Suresh is in proximity with some higher-ups in the university," the sources said.
The saga of open nepotism and favoritism does not end here as another contractual employee who happened to be wife of general secretary of Non-Teaching Employees Union of the varsity has been given some peculiar benefits.
The sources revealed that Reeta Devi, daughter of late Rattan Chand, wife of Manoj Chouhan was appointed in 2008 as junior assistant on contract basis in place of Vijay Kumar Verma who was senior assistant in Accounts Branch of the university. Before that she was appointed on leave chance for two years in 2006.
"The university administration asked all the contractual employees who had completed their seven year term to submit their documents till December 15, 2014," the sources said, that the university accepted documents of Reeta Devi while her tenure was short by four months.
Sources alleged that she being influential was given an opportunity to submit documents for her regularization despite falling short of tenure while the others were outrighlty denied of such a privilege.
"She was given this benefit just because of pressure from her husband who is general secretary of the Non-Teaching Employees Union," said the sources, adding that her case was sent to a special high powered committee to weigh her case for the regularization .
R D Sharma who served on various positions in the past in Jammu University as well as in Board of Professional Entrance Examination (BOPEE) honestly had generated a ray of hope among society after being declared as Vice Chancellor but the tentacles of this influential lobby responsible for the mess have become that deep rooted that even Prof. Sharma is finding himself as a pawn in the hands of these influential vested interests.
Manoj K Dhar, Registrar when contacted dramatically evaded the question giving strange reply that he has no knowledge of the cases and he has to check the files for these queries however, registrar is the person who cross checks the files before enlisting them to the syndicate.
