Early Times Report

Srinagar, Apr 14: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) is yet to demolish an illegal building in Srinagar's posh colony as police is not providing the necessary assistance to the SMC authorities to undertake the demolition.
The said building was constructed after Police had filed a wrong FIR during September 2014 floods which stated that a building was completely destroyed near the place where the illegal structure has been constructed.
As per official documents available with Early Times , the Chief Enforcement Officer of Srinagar Municipal Corporation vide his official letter No: SMC/ENF/19,776-81 Dated 3.1.2015 requested Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar to provide necessary assistance to the SMC staff for enabling them to undertake the demolition of an illegal building which came up in Srinagar's Hyderpora area Gulberg Colony sector 7. The police has not responded to the request of SMC's Chief Enforcement officer till date and with the result illegal structure continues to stay in the said colony .
The information obtained under RTI Act reveals that police and SMC authorities are hand in glove vis a vis illegal constructions in Srinagar especially following September 2014 floods .
"The police station Sadder has filed a wrong FIR which mentioned that a building had collapsed during floods which was located in Gulberg Colony Hyderpora sector 7 which belongs to Habibullah Dar. There was no building at all in the compound of Habibullah Dar except his house. All this news is totally fake as I got this matter exposed and authenticated which forced the SMC authorities to issue demolition orders .
The owner of illegal structure Habibullah Dar Gulberg Colony Hyderpora in order to undertake illegal construction wrongly took up this case with police after bribing them and got an FIR registered for flood damages" said Salim Jan Dar a local resident of Hyderpora who has obtained all the documents through Right to Information Act (RTI) from SMC authorities and subsequently filed a complaint before the SMC for undertaking demolition.
