"Make in India" takes Modi on seven-day foreign trip | | | A few hours before he set foot for a seven-day tour to France, Canada and Germany Prime Minister Narendra Modi had explained that he usually chooses to visit more than one country during his foreign trips because as a Gujarati he believes in the old adage of "single fare,double journey. "Well right from the day he took over as Prime Minister Modi has been trying to push his dream project "Make in India"to move faster than what his supporters expect. And in this case he has been wooing private and Government investment in the sectors of industry, energy, nuclear and hydro,modernization of railways network including making his another project related to running of bullet trains on several routes in the country feasible.Well his trip to Paris has yielded dividends. France has agreed to help India in developing smart cities.In addition to this France has accepted India's plea for helping the Indian experts in modernizing the entire railways system so that bullet trains could run on various routes.France will assist India in the upgradation of Delhi-Chandigarh rail line and Ambala-Ludhiana line. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said has ordered 36 "ready-to-fly" French-made Rafale fighter jets to modernise his country's ageing warplane fleet as neighbouring states upgraded their military hardware. The Defence Minister,Manohar Parekar, has described the Rafale deal as oxygen for the Indian Air Force which lacked the strike power in the light of speedy development of the air strike by China and Pakistan.. Modi's visit to France is his 13th visit to a foreign country since he was elected as Prime Minister in May last.He has added two more countries,Germany and Canada in his itinerly.The basic purpose of his trips to the US,France, Germany, Canada, China, Japan and other smaller neighbouring countries is to attract foreign companies for investing in India.In certain cases Modi has suggested to various Government and private companies in foreign lands that if they desired the could set up joint ventures in India so that India could register a phenomenal growth in the industrial sector. Actually Modi is trying to compete with "Made in China" slogan by laying emphasis on "Make in India"in manufacturing varied goods including those needed by the Armed forces.It is for the first time India has kept the avenue open to foreign companies for helping India to enlarge its units manufacturing equipments and gadgets for the Armed forces.And a number of countries have assured India of its help in entering into joint venture modernizing the industrial units meant for production of equipments and gadgets used by the Army,the Air Force and the Navy.Once India had established a strong base for "Make in India" programme it would help the country in resolving the problem of unemployment and reduce its dependence on import of sophisticated equipments and gadgets for the Armed forces. Modi's main focus is on improving power generation and already France has assured its help in assisting the Indian engineers and technocrats in generating additional 10,000 MWs of nuclear power.India as a self-sufficient country in power will usher in industrial and agricultural revolution and there after India will have the advantage of exporting surplus power to some neighbouring countries that could enhance India's economy and revenue. |
