Jammu, May 9: Danesh Rana IPS IGP Jammu Zone Jammu alongwith Shakeel Ahmed Beig, IPS DIG Jammu interacted with prominent citizens of Distt Jammu at Police GO's Mess in which various issues including traffic chaos and drug menace were discussed. Danesh Rana IGP Jammu while responding to various suggestions said that Govt is already on job for construction of multi-tier parking slot at Panjtirthi and Bus Stand. "Jammu Akhnoor road is being widened shortly to ensure free flow of traffic on the said road which would also minimize the accident rate on that road,: he added. IGP Jammu further disclosed that a separate land is being acquired for establishment of Drug De-addiction Centre with multi facility like yoga, counselling, meditation etc to tackle the drug addiction among youth. Regarding fast growing begging menaces in Jammu, IGP Jammu disclosed that SHOs concerned have already been directed to carry out audit of these persons so that in case they are illegally settled in Jammu a legal action could be taken. To a query, he also said that a full body scanner shall be shortly installed at Jawahar tunnel which is bound to prevention of smuggling of poppy straw from Srinagar to Jammu. Various prominent citizens who spoke on the occasion highlighted various problems/issues about traffic jams in Jammu city and drug abuses. They suggested for creation of separate places for protest, processions and terminals for passenger vehicles in order to avoid unnecessary traffic jams, which some time causes stoppage of essential services, hindrance in the smooth flow of traffic and sometimes critical patients get trapped in traffic jams, which are mostly occurred due to strikes and protests over pity issues of some particular areas. They also suggested installation of CCTV cameras and behavioural changes at police station and police post level. Earlier at the onset of meeting Shakeel Ahmed Beig, DIG Jammu welcomed the prominent senior citizens and highlighted various programmes organized by the J&K Police under Civil Action Programme (CAP) like anti-drug rallies, seminars on social evils, rallies on road safety and sports activities to keep youth physically fit and to keep them away from drug addiction and social evils. Prominent senior citizens Ramesh Arora MLC, Rakesh Gupta President Chamber of Commerce and Industries, B.S. Slathia Ex Bar President, Y.V. Sharma Ex-Chairman Chamber of Commerce, Raju Choudhary, Capt Murti, Sheikh Zahoor General Secretary Jamia Masjid, Vinod Sachdeva, Rama Kant Dubay President VHP and Maj Gen.(Rtd) Goverdhan Singh Jamwal President J&K Ex-Serviceman League appreciated the move of police for conducing such meeting and requested that such meetings should be a routine affair for strengthening the police public relations.
