BJP MPs embarrass PM, party | KPs in Lok Sabha | | Early Times Report jammu, May 9: Not one but at least two BJP MPs on Friday embarrassed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his colleagues in the Lok Sabha by attacking Article 370 under which J&K enjoys a separate status. They held it responsible for all the ills afflicting the internally-displaced Kashmiri Pandit community. None of these MPs was from J&K. They belonged to other states and their interventions suggested that they knew where the shoe was pinching. They were quite forthright. Both the BJP MPs in Lok Sabha pitched for the return of Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) to the Valley and asked the government to provide them all facilities. They termed Article 370 of the Constitution as an obstacle and sought its removal. Initiating the debate, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey said that "conspiracies" were being hatched for long to force the Pandits out of the Valley and blamed the previous Congress-led dispensation at the Centre and National Conference-led regime in the state for their policies which, he asserted, had led to such a situation. Another BJP MP Prahlad Patel also spoke against Article 370, saying it "is an obstacle and should be scrapped". What they said about Article 370 was not consistent with the stand of the Prime Minister and the party. They perhaps were not aware of the fact that the BJP had decided to speak against Article 370 after Hina Bhat, a Kashmiri BJP activist, threatened to pick up gun in case this Article was removed. It bears recalling that it was after her threat that the BJP had decided not to release its election manifesto for the J&K Assembly elections. The manifesto had reportedly said that the BJP, if voted to power in J&K, will encourage debate on Article 370 to find if it had benefited or harmed the state and its people. She had predicted much before that there will be no reference to Article 370 in the BJP election manifesto. Since the BJP election manifesto -- which had been printed for circulation -- contained a reference to Article 370, the BJP high command decided not to release it to please Hina Bhat, who now represents the BJP on various news channels. She is the today's BJP's ideologue. It is interesting to note that the BJP's Vision Document also didn't touch Article 370. In any case, what the BJP MPs said in the Lok Sabha did suggest that there are important persons in the party who continue to pursue the line of Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, who had laid down his life in Srinagar on June 23, 1953 for integrating J&K into India. It augurs well for the country. |
