Blood bank of SMGS hospital craves for attention | Blood donors get refreshment occasionally | | Nitesh Sangral

Jammu, May 9: Blood bank of Shri Maharaja Ghulab Singh (SMGS) hospital has been craving for attention. Moreover, the donors at blood bank of SMGS hospital get refreshment occasionally which reflects the indiference of the authorities towards the donors. Sources informed Early Times that nearly 19 to 20 thousand blood points are collected annually even as the bank lacks basic facilities for staff and donors. According to guidelines of Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) of India blood bank shall be air-conditioned to maintain temperature between 20 to 25 degrees. They further stated that number of donors who visit blood bank for donating blood rarely get ny refreshment. "If we talk about outside blood banks, they provide Rs 30 rupees (numbers of varieties in refreshment) to a donor or Rs 50 for volunteers as well. But in J&K State the health department has been providing Rs 10 as refreshment for a donor and Rs 25 for volunteer which by no means is adequate. However, the concerned authorities claimed that the issue has been taken up with higher authorities. "Moreover, the bottle of milk provided to the fonor occasionally is not up to mark, "a doctor said and adding instead of milk, they should be provided juice. Associate Professor and Head of blood bank of GMC hospital, Dr Vijay Sahney said," we don't know about the problems, if some problems are there, the concerned in-charge should be informed but till date no one has informed me, "he claimed. On quality of milk provided to donors, he said it will be looked into. Dr Meena Sidhu Assistant Professor at blood bank said that she had informed to concerned about the condition of blood bank and also asked for increasing the quality and quantity of refreshment but nothing has been done in this regard. |
