Early Times Report
Kathua, May 9: All is not well with the health of the town that has given the state of Jammu and Kashmir a 'most dynamic' health minister "Patting his own back for having created a revolution in the health sector is an unconvinced claim by the health minister Lal Singh who never looked back at the health of his own people," is a general lament of the people of Kathua who provided heavy mandate accounting into the win of the minister from the constituency. Speaking to media, Deepak Sharma, a local youth from Sanyal in Hiranagar Tehsil said Health Sub Centre, Sanyal that accommodates 5 surrounding villages and population in hundreds, has been closed for long and employees are unpunctual in the centre that affect the health of villagers. He said people try to approach the centre but due to lack of medical facilities they move towards district hospital 40 km from village. He said many such incidents occurred due to lack of medical facility in the village. His grievance was endorsed by another Ajay Sharma, who said that Government constructed other alternative building in the village that is yet to be shifted. "The new constructed building has been turned into cattle Shed due to lack of proper infrastructure. We demand renovation of the new building and HSC must be shifted to mitigate the sufferings of hundreds of people," he said. Sarpanch of the panchayat Sanyal, Jawahar Lal Sharma, said he felt proud when Health Sub Centre was sanctioned for the village that could have been beneficial for 5 villages but no facility has been provided after completion of the construction work. He added nobody cared the building that now turns into cow-pond and safe haven for drunkards. Sharma said the demand for shifting the centre was raised before BMO, CMO and in a meeting with DDC Kathua but nothing has been done despite assurances. He said Health Minister try to provide medical facilities in other district but his own town is deprived off such facilities and people are living in unhygienic condition. Dr. Basant Kumar, CMO Kathua assured to discuss the matter with high authority to shift the Health Centre into new building after minor renovation. He also promised to formulate a team to inquiry the function of existing Sub Centre. He said appropriate action will be taken if anyone found guilty and irresponsible towards duty. |
