Daily Wagers to hold sit-in on May 13
5/9/2015 11:48:45 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 9, 'All Jammu and Kashmir Daily Wagers Forum'- an amalgam of various daily wagers associations, Saturday said that it would hold a sit-in protest in Srinagar on May 13 to press for regularization of their services.
Addressing media persons here, Forum's chairman Sajad Ahmad Parray said that their demand is not something new. "We have been fighting for the regularization of our services from past two decades. Every dispensation assured us justice but later ignored our plight," said Parray.
He lamented on Mufti led government, saying, "During the NC-Congress regime PDP was issuing long statements condemning use of force and pellet guns against peaceful protests of daily wagers. This time PDP forgot to condemn the police again and use of pellet guns against us when we were holding peaceful protests two days ago," he added.
"We are going to hold peaceful sit-in at Lal Chowk on May 13. We will assemble at Sher-e-Kashmir Park here and would march peacefully towards Lal Chowk to hold peaceful sit-in there," he added. Parray said previous government has proven to be the barrier in regularizing the daily-wagers of different departments of Jammu and Kashmir and now present dispensation was also ignoring their plight.
He said that about 60000 families are facing the problems due to the delay caused by authorities, adding, "The poor employees are being lathi-charged and detained while seeking their genuine rights."
"Authorities cannot silent us by using force against us. Our issue is genuine and we would not accept any pressure from any quarters. Some politicians are claiming that daily wagers are the production of former regimes. It is an attempt to divert the concentration of people from the main issue (Our regularization). We will defeat every nefarious design of those who want to sabotage the process of our regularization," he added.
"Our demand is simple and genuine. We demand that government should frame the employee-friendly policy for our regularization," he said.
He added that present dispensation had announced to set up high power committee to look into our demands and recommend way out to meet them. "More than two days have passed and no such committee has been formed yet," he added.
