KUNAL SHRIVATSA Early Times Report JAMMU, May 9: Bringing laurels to the city of temples, a mother-daughter duo have hit international headlines and made Jammuites proud when their unique relationship was covered by none other than the leading social website, Facebook. The mother Sunanda Padha and daughter Sheena Sharma hogged the limelight in Facebook Stories recently. The mother-daughter's video shot exclusively by the Facebook has gone viral on Facebook with more than a million likes. The editor at Facebook Stories got in touch with Sheena after reading her post at their Facebook Stories' page and offered to make a short movie on her mom and herself. The result was more than excited for the daughters of the soil as it was a wonderful and special memory for both the mother and the daughter. Sunanda Padha wife of Brij Padha, a Captain in Merchant Navy, is a resident of Green Belt Park, Gandhi Nagar while her daughter Sheena, whose in laws' house is near Laxmi Narayan Temple, Gandhi Nagar, presently resides in Washington DC, the capital of the United States of America. After her marriage nearly one and a half years back, Sheena moved to America as her husband Sirus Sharma, who is working as a Senior Manager in a management expert company-Deloite. It is worthwhile to mention here that Sirus' father Lieutenant General Rakesh Sharma is the only serving officer from J&K who holds such a high rank in the Army. Lt General Sharma is presently serving as Commandant, Officers' Training Academy (OTA), Gaya. In a text message covered in the video that gone viral and made Sunanda and Sheena globally famous, the daughter Sheena said, "It is true when someone said, "Distance means so little when someone means so much," adding but it is also true, that it does get difficult sometimes. "Being very close to me, when Sheena was to get married and move to USA from Jammu, she would often think of ways to stay connected with me other than a phone call," Sunanda told Early Times. "Sheena thought it would be nice if I try my hand at Facebook, and it was a big deal for me to think so, as I didn't even really know how to send a mobile text. A bit strange though, being a senior broadcaster at Radio Kashmir Jammu (All India Radio) for over three decades, I have handled a lot of hi-tech equipments, but when it came to a mobile phone, I would use it just to make or receive a call. Sheena would often urge me to try Facebook but I would say, it is better to speak on the phone," she added. Sunanda further said that finally, Sheena got married and moved to US, thousands of miles away from Jammu. "Within a month of Sheena's marriage I bought an ipad and created my Facebook account with the help of my son. One fine morning, I sent a friend request to my daughter and since then there is no looking back…Though we speak on the phone often but being in touch with her on Facebook adds different charm all together," Sunanda said. "Finally, I would like to wish, all the Mother's a very Happy Mother's Day and may God bless them all with lots of love, happiness and good health," she added. |
