JAMMU, May 9: Akhnoor zone dominated in both kabaddi and kho-kho events taking home four title trophies in twin age groups of under-14 and under-17 in the inter-zonal girls' competitions of Jammu district, organised by the Department of youth Services and Sports (DYSS) at Government Higher Secondary school, Domana, near here today.
On the concluding day of the event, the semifinals and finals were witnessed by Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Marh, Sunaina Mehta, who was chief guest in the concluding function. She gave away prizes and certificates to the participating teams. Speaking to the teams, she said that sports inculcate the sense of confidence among young students.
Earlier, Principal of the host school, Ajeet Kumar Sharma welcomed the chief guest and presented a brief note of the event. Also present were SHO Domana, Rajinder Sharma and Zonal Physical Education Officers (ZPEOs) of the participating zones falling under Jammu district.
Today's matches officiated by the technical penal comprising Jasdev Singh, Ashok Kumar, Bua Ditta, Sanjeet, Anubhav, Ram Murti, Tilak Raj, Gulveer Rampal, Sham Krishan, Ramesh, Sham Singh, Balwan, Ajmer, Poonam, Raman, Jagjeet, Prithpal and Ravinder Singh.

KHO-KHO: Under-17: Akhnoor zone bt Miran Sahib zone 6-5. Shafali and Kirti performed well for the winning team. Semifinals: Miran Sahib Zone bt Bhalwal by one turn and four points and Akhnoor zone bt Jammu zone by one turn and five points. Under-14: Akhnoor zone bt Miran Sahib zone 2-1 in final. Nancy and Achla named best players. Semifinals: Miran Sahib zone bt Jammu zone by one turn and one point and Akhnoor zone bt Bhalwal zone 3-2.
VOLLEYBALL: Under-17: Gandhi Nagar zone bt Bhalwal zone 2-1. Semifinals: Gandhi Nagar zone bt Miran Sahib 2-0 and Bhalwal zone bt Chowki Choura 2-0. Under-14: Gandhi Nagar zone bt Satwari zone in straight sets in the final.
KABADDI: Under-17: Akhnoor zone bt Gandhi Nagar 51-40 in the final. Semifinals: Akhnoor Zone beat Chowki Choura Zone 26-10 and Gandhi Nagar bt Bhalwal zone 35-25. Under-14: Akhnoor zone bt Chowki Choura 34-15 in the final. Semifinals: Akhnoor zone bt Arnia zone 35-15 and Chowki Choura zone bt Bhalwal zone 38-19. |
